Tent camping during Convention is FREE at the Central States Fairgrounds and is included in your registration. There are several RV sites at the campground that have 30/50 amp hookups, and are available for a fee on a first-come, first-served basis. You can indicate if you’ll need one of these sites during the registration process. If you want to bring your furry friend with you, there will be a $20 charge for very well-behaved pets at the fairgrounds.
Tent Camping
Tent camping is included with your convention registration! The 2022 staff have arranged for this to be available for attendees to 2022, with some special arrangements for folks who want to come in a little early.
Friday Arrival – If you are coming to town on Friday June 10th, the convention venue will not yet be ready for us. Arrangements have been made for these early arrivals to camp overnight on land owned by Sharon and Adam Weaver adjacent to the Stratobowl. If you want to take advantage of this opportunity you must RSVP by emailing adam@caves.org with the subject line “Convention Camping.” You will get a response with specific details. Your registration packets will be available for pickup when you arrive and Saturday cave trip sign up will be available here.
Saturday Arrival – If you are arriving in Rapid City on Saturday June 11th, Registration will be open in the registration building from 3-7pm. Sunday cave trip signup will be available at registration. If arriving later on this date, special accommodations might be possible by emailing the convention email address. The registration building is located between 800 and 801 San Francisco Street.
Sunday going forward – Registration is expected to open at 8am on Sunday. So, folks headed out on Field Trips can get their paperwork out of the way before heading out to see some great Geology/Hydrology/Paleontology! Also, cave trip planning be be available daily at the registration building. Closing times Sunday and weekday registration will be posted closer to the event. The registration building is located between 800 and 801 San Francisco Street.
RV Camping – RV Camping, especially RV Camping with hookups, has limited availability until Sunday Registration. While this may be possible, your expectation should be that it will not be available until June 12th, and we will work to pleasantly surprise you!
Checkout – It is our expectation that all of the camping areas are vacated by 3pm on Saturday, June 18th. Please help us cleanup, by leaving your campsite cleaner than you found it, and throwing away any excess trash in your area.
IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE STAYING OFF-SITE DURING CONVENTION, you need to make hotel and/or lodging reservations RIGHT NOW. The Black Hills is a tourist hot spot, and since COVID hit, finding rooms or places to stay is nearly impossible the closer we get to convention time. It is not uncommon to find hotel rooms going for upwards of $300 per night during this time.
